About the game
Somebody at the table is lying. Think The Departed: undercover cops, a crew that knows each other, and nobody sure who the rat is. If you've ever played Killer (some people call it Assassin) with a deck of cards, where one secret card makes you the killer and everyone squints at everyone else, this is that, with team votes, secret missions and a whole crew to catch.
How it works
- Secret roles — each player is dealt Cop or Mafia on their own phone. The Cops are the majority but don't know who anyone is. The Mafia (2–4 of them, depending on how many are playing) know each other.
- Propose and vote — each round a leader picks a team for a mission, and everyone votes to approve or reject it. Five rejections in a row and the Mafia win.
- Secret mission cards — on an approved team, each member secretly plays Success or Fail. Cops always play Success. A Fail sinks the mission.
- First to three — the first side to win three missions takes the game, and every role is revealed at the end.
- A host runs the table — one person hosts and sees everything, so everyone else can play. Share the room code and friends join from their phones.

Frequently asked questions
- What is Mafia?
- A social deduction game for 5–10 players plus a host. Everyone is secretly a Cop or in the Mafia. Cops win by completing missions; the Mafia win by sabotaging them.
- Is it free to play online?
- Yes. Mafia on So Bored Games is free, and there's nothing to download.
- Do I need an account?
- Players don't — just enter the room code. Hosts create a free account to start a game.
- How many players do I need?
- Five to ten players, plus a host who runs the game. More players means a bigger Mafia crew and bigger mission teams.
- Is this like Killer or Assassin with a deck of cards?
- Same spirit: a secret role is dealt to each player and everyone watches everyone else. Here the game deals the roles for you, and you find the rat through team votes and secret mission cards instead of winks.
